Electric roadsters have been few and far between, particularly after the iconic Tesla Roadster. Fast forward to 2023 and MG is about to change that with its very own roadster model, called the MG Cyberster.
The Cyberster is going to be one of the first two-seater electric vehicles from the brand. Dimension wise it will be:
This makes it quite a low vehicle and is over 100 mm lower than a Tesla Model 3, which is 1,443 mm in height.
According to cnevpost, the new model’s filing with the Chinese government shows that there will be three models on offer. Two will be single-motor versions while one will include the dual-motor powertrain.
The single-motor version will be offered with either a 231 kW motor or a higher-powered 250 kW output. Both models will have a top speed of 193 km/h.
The dual-motor version will be offered with 150 kW and 250 kW motors and can reach top speeds of up to 200 km/h.
The MG Cyberster was first showcased at the Shanghai auto show in 2021. Two years later in 2023, the near-production version will also be at the upcoming Shanghai auto show starting next week.
The original Tesla Roadster had a drive-away price of $A222,995 with a range of just under 400km back in 2011.
Given how much the EV market has changed since Tesla’s pioneering vehicle over 12 years ago when it was being sold in Australia, the new Cyberster from MG is expected to be less than half that.
We hope to see more battery specs and pricing information to be released in the coming months given the new filings which indicate that this electric roadster will be on sale shortly.
