Mercedes to deliver 100 long haul electric trucks to German logistics giant

German logistics company DB Schenker has placed an order for 100 Mercedes-Benz eActros LongHaul electric trucks for its European haulage operations.

The eActros LongHaul boasts a range of around 500km on a single charge and is expected to enter series production next year.

As one of the leading providers of road transportation in the world, DB Schenker’s order for 100 of the Mercedes-Benz eActros LongHaul trucks demonstrates the rapid pace with which electrification is taking off in industries not long ago thought difficult to decarbonise.

“The successive expansion of our electric fleet will enable us to pursue our objective of becoming the world’s leading provider of green logistics,” said Cyrille Bonjean, head of land transport at DB Schenker Europe.

“With the eActros LongHaul, it is now also possible to use battery-electric vehicles on long distances. For us, it is important to take responsibility for the environment and to promote ecological solutions.”

Daimler Truck unveiled the Mercedes-Benz eActros LongHaul in September of last year.

Boasting more than 600kWh of battery capacity from three battery packs powering a pair of electric motors as part of a new e-axle which can generate a continuous output of 400kW and a peak output of over 600kW, Mercedes-Benz will produce the eActros LongHaul in both a tractor unit and a rigid variant from launch.

“DB Schenker is an important and long-standing partner for us that is already successfully using our electric trucks for distribution haulage,” said Stina Fagerman, head of marketing, sales, and services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

“We are therefore all the more pleased that, for long-distance haulage, the company has chosen another vehicle sporting the three-pointed star – the battery-electric eActros LongHaul.”
