BYD is planning on showcasing its luxury sports car, the Yangwang U9, at the Shanghai auto show this month.Ā

It made the announcement on BYD’s official Twitter page by sharing 3 images.

Behold, the Yangwang U9, an all-electric sports car.

The images showcased the new sports car on a racetrack. From the latest images, the new supercar will be aimed at race-focused enthusiasts, with quad motors driving a stunning acceleration of 0-100km/h in just two seconds.

The front showcases a unique daytime running light pattern that moves in horizontal and vertical directions.Ā

On the rear, there is a large wing in the back along with a rear diffuser. The tail lights also seem to extend from one side to the other.

The side photo of the Yangwang U9 shows an aerodynamic stance making it look closer to a Mclaren.Ā

BYD officially unveiled the new luxury Yangwang brand earlier this year with the U8 SUV and U9 sportscar models to be some of the first to fit under it:

BYD's first premium brand Yangwang has just launched the U8, a luxury off-road SUV, and the U9, an all-electric supercar!

Together with our innovative e⁓ Platform, Yangwang will continue to push the boundaries in luxury NEV development. #Yangwang #U8 #U9 pic.twitter.com/HErzwQaG8W

The U9 will be powered by a quad-motor setup that will produce 820 kW of power and 1280 Nm of peak torque.Ā

Rumours suggest that a 100 kWh blade battery will be used to power the four motors.Ā

For a quick comparison, the Tesla Model S Tri-motor Plaid which has been in production since June 2021 produces 760 kW of power.Ā

The Plaid is fed by a 100 kWh battery pack and comes equipped with Dragstrip mode. Australian prices of the Model S Plaid were around $A220,000 when it was available to order through the configurator. The first deliveries of the new Model S Plaid are expected to be in the next 12 months.

It is also expected to be priced like various other electric luxury supercars. The suggested price is around 1,000,000 RMB or $A220,000.Ā

The launch plans for the Yangwang U9 are unclear at the moment but we hope to see more details at the Shanghai auto show this month.
