Ford has announced that the top-selling and long awaited all-electric Mustang Mach-E will arrive in Australia by the end of 2023. It will be the first electric vehicle that Ford will be selling in the Australian market.

The Mach-E will provide local competition for the high performing electric sedans such as the Model 3, the Polestar 2 and the nearly released Ioniq 6. Thee Mach-e was the 3rd highest selling full battery electric model in the US in 2022, trailing only Tesla’s Model Y and Tesla’s Model 3.

The news was confirmed by Ford CEO, Jim Farley on Twitter, calling Australia the 39th market for Ford to launch the Mach-E:

With the @AusGrandPrix coming up, it’s a good time to share that Mustang Mach-E is heading down under. We're scaling EVs globally & @FordAustralia will be our 39th market for #MustangMachE!šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗAussies are going to love it.

It’s an exciting time for electric vehicles in Australia, and Mach-E gives us the chance to do what Mustang has done best for decades – put a smile on customer’s faces,” saidAndrew Birkic, the head of Ford Australia.

“We know Australians love that feeling of driving a performance car, and the Mach-E will mean they can enjoy that iconic Mustang freedom with all the benefits that an EV offers. There’s something special about the Mach-E that you can only really understand once you get behind the wheel.ā€

The Mach-E will be available inĀ three variants, including the high-performance Mach-E GT. The other two will include the Mach-E Select and Mach-E Premium.

Internationally, Ford is developing an LFP battery so the Mach-E Select may include a 71 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack with up to 470 km of range, however this is yet to be confirmed. The power output from this single-motor variant is expected to be 198 kW and shares the torque figure of 430 Nm with its Premium variant.

A larger battery will be offered in the Premium variant. It comes equipped with a 91 kWh battery pack that will power the single-motor drivetrain, delivering up to 216 kW of power and 430 Nm peek torque. The Premium variant has a claimed range of 600 km.

Ford introduces the Mustang Mach-E GT SUV in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019. The GT Performance Edition brings the thrills Mustang is famous for, targeting 0-60 mph in the mid-3-second range and an estimated 342 kW (459 horsepower) and 830 Nm (612 lb.-ft.) of torque.

The top-of-the-range Mach-E GT will also use the same larger 91 kWh battery pack offering 358 kW and a whopping 860 Nm of torque from it’s AWD (all-wheel-drive) powertrain. This powertrain setup with the larger battery will deliver 490 km of range.

The Mach-E GT will also be Ford Australia’s fastest car, sprinting from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds. It will also include performance suspension and brakes.Ā

Like the Tesla Model 3 Performance ā€œTrack Modeā€, Ford will be offering the ā€œUntame Plusā€ mode on the GT. According to Ford, this is designed to help unleash the true potential of the Mach-E GT on the track.

On the inside, the Mach-E will be offered with a 15.5-inch infotainment screen along with a 10.2-inch digital cluster screen. Wireless charging and a 10-speaker sound-system will also be available.Ā

Ford is also aiming to deliver every Australian delivered Mach-E with a panoramic sunroof as standard.

Late last year, Ford produced its 150,000th Mach-E with plans to ramp production right up in 2023.Ā

Ford is already selling the Mach-E across the ditch in New Zealand with deliveries by June this year. Pricing on its variants there ranges from $NZ79,990 for the single-motor model, all the way up to $NZ124,990 for the GT AWD model.

Mustang Mach-E pricing and full specs will be released closer to the local launch. Online reservations for the new Mustang Mach-E will also be opening soon but in the meantime, interested buyers can register their interest on Ford Australia’s website.
