Hyundai offers 23 pre-owned Ioniq 5s as part of second hand online sales trial

Hyundai Australia has listed for the first time 23 pre-owned models of its best selling Ioniq 5 electric SUVs on the company’s website as part of a new trial that extends its centralised selling model.

The Ioniq 5, which has won multiple car of the year awards in Australia and around the world, is one of the most sought-after EVs on the market, but supply to Australia has been limited.

Hyundai has been releasing the new models via “batches” or online “drops”, sometimes to the great frustration of buyers that miss out, and is now offering second hand Ioniq 5s online.

The 23 second hand all electric Ioniq 5s start from $A68,200.00, and  Hyundai says that most of the cars are a mix of ex-company cars and customer cars. Most have odometer readings of less than 10,000 km.

Hyundai says it’s trialling the pre-owned listings page with Sydney based cars, before rolling out a broader program.

On its new Pre-owned IONIQ 5 page Hyundai says: “Low kilometre, factory-serviced models which have been thoroughly checked and comes with the balance of new vehicle warranty^. You could say they’re just about as good as new.”

The “monthly drop” approach to selling EVs has caused problems, with offerings generally selling out in a matter of minutes and have caused a lot of frustration with customers who miss out.

Last month the Hyundai website actually crashed during one of these sales leaving almost half of the new Ioniq 5s unsold.

Hyundai Australia says the plan going forward is to regularly update the Hyundai website with pre-owned stock.
