Tesla has increased the prices of its popular models in Australia, after cutting them in a big way just over a month ago, both in Australia – and more dramatically in its home market of the US.
The move comes as a surprise since this time around, the price increases are only for the single-motor RWD variants of the Model 3 and the most popular electric SUV, the Model Y. Both of Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y have gone up by $400.
The Tesla Model 3 RWD now starts at $64,300 before on-road costs, up from $63,900 a month ago.
It reflects the high demand for the Tesla Model 3 which was the third best-selling vehicle, not just an EV but of all vehicles, in Australia last month.
Even after this price increase, the Tesla Model 3 is eligible for various incentives and rebates around Australia. Queenslanders will miss out as the purchase price limit for EV incentives is set at $58,000.
For Model Y, a similar increase is seen in the RWD model. The price base price begins at $69,300 before any on-road costs. This price increase will still be cheaper than the Model Y was for most of 2022 after its launch back in June 2022.
A week after the Tesla Model Y launch in Australia, the price of the RWD model was increased to $72,300 so the current price of $69,300 is still $3,000 lower than what many new order holders who took their delivery until December 2022 had paid.
The latest price increases on the RWD models of Australia’s most popular EVs just show the strengthening demand for Tesla as it continues to expand its customer base.
