Hyundai Australia has announced the pricing and specifications of its newest sleek electric sedan, the Ioniq 6, with prices starting at $74,000 before on roads.

It’s set to be one of Hyundai’s most efficient electric vehicles, calling the new Ioniq 6 an “Electrified Streamliner” with an expected local Australian launch in February.

Its aerodynamic design boasts a very low coefficient of drag at around 0.22, which is lower even than the best-selling Tesla Model 3, which stands at 0.23.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be the first sedan from the brand to be based on the Electrified-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that is also the basis of the very popular Ioniq 5 SUV and the EV6 from sister company Kia.

This means that the new Ioniq 6 can charge from 10-80% in 18 minutes at a 350 kW charger. This makes it one of the quickest-charging EVs to hit our shores in 2023.

The Ioniq 6 will be available in three different variants with single and dual-motor powertrain setups:

  • Dynamic grade offers the longest driving range, in a premium package
  • Techniq grade brings additional power, all-wheel drive, and an array of extra features
  • Epiq is the ultimate grade and features cutting-edge technology including Digital Side Mirrors and a battery conditioning system

The battery and motor setup on the single-motor Dynamic variant can get range figures as high as 614 km while the dual-motor versions are still respectable at 519 km. All of these are equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery pack.

The Ioniq 6 will also come with Hyundai Over-The-Air (OTA) updates in Australia. These can be used to notify customers to apply necessary updates to vehicle system software and the GPS navigation unit.

On the pricing front, the Ioniq 6 range starts at $74,000, excluding on-roads for the Dynamiq variant and tops out at $88,000 for the Epiq variant. Matte paint will also set customers back $1,000.

The service intervals are set at 24 and 48 months or 30,000 km and 60,000 km respectively with a set fee of $560 at every service visit.

With Hyundai’s EV range popularity only growing in Australia after selling out the last batch of Ioniq 5 in 15 minutes last month, the Ioniq 6 is sure to do well.

The new Ioniq 6 will be launching in Australia in February 2023.
