BYD launched its first electric vehicle, the Atto 3, in 2022 in the Australian market. Initially, it was only sold in three colours before a fourth special red colour was introduced.
Now a fifth colour is being added to BYD’s configurator today (Wednesday, January 11), according to a post by BYD’s importer, EV Direct. It’s called “Forest Green” which looks quite different to the brighter greens found in vehicles by other manufacturers.
This would be offered to customers placing an order on a new Atto 3. To announce the release of this new colour to the range, EV Direct’s social media post on Facebook says:
“BYD Atto 3 Forest Green. Available for new orders Wednesday, 11th of January.”
Currently, it’s unclear if the Forest Green will be offered on both the Standard and Extended variants of the Atto 3 or just the more expensive Extended version.
It is also likely that the new paint will be an additional $700 like the other three paint colours. Only the white is included in the Atto 3 range as standard which has no additional costs.
The new Forest Green is expected to be added to the configurator today and is to be offered to people placing an order from today. The current wait time is April/May delivery for the colours available so it’s likely to be similar for the new Forest Green colour too.
On special paint colours for the Atto 3, there have also been reports that the first batch of the red Atto 3 electric SUVs has landed in Australia.

The photos Ian took show several red Atto 3s that will be prepared for customer deliveries in the coming weeks. This is good news for many customers who have been waiting months to get behind the wheel of their red Atto 3.
The Atto 3 has been very popular in the local market with 2113 being sold in 2022. All of these so far have been in white, grey or blue.
The addition of new colours is only a good thing as offers factory options rather than customers having to wrap their car in a different colour after taking delivery of it.
This is also a very expensive option and can cost thousands compared to $700 for special paints that BYD has offered to local customers.
2023 will be a big year for one of the newest ground-up EV brands in Australia and with customers being offered more options as well as potential new models on the way, it can only be a good thing for EV uptake in Australia.
