Hyundai to make biggest drop yet of award-winning Ioniq 5 electric SUV

Hyundai is about to offer the largest single drop of its popular Ioniq 5 electric SUV, amid huge ongoing interest for the multi award winning vehicle.

Hyundai will offer 250 of the new Ioniq 5 electric SUVs in the latest online release scheduled for 1pm on January 19. It is the biggest offering by far, and comes after 756 were delivered to Australian shores in calendar 2022, just a fraction of the interest reportedly in the tens of thousands from would-be consumers.

The latest offering will include a variety of configurations across every state and territory. This is the first time that every state and territory, including the Northern Territory for the first time, will be offered cars in a single allocation.

Configurations on offer to those thinking of getting behind the wheel of an Ioniq 5 will include:

• 44 Dynamiq 2WD
• 143 Techniq AWD
• 63 Epiq AWD

This new drop includes the top-of-the-range Epiq AWD variant which adds a variety of features including:

• Panoramic Sunroof
• Heat pump
• Battery conditioning to improve charging performance

The key difference between the last generation 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the 2023 models is also featured in the battery which is larger than the previous model. 

It now has a 77.4 kWh battery pack that can deliver up to 454 km of WLTP range in the Epiq and Techniq AWD versions. For the Dynamiq 2WD version, the battery pack can deliver up to 508 km of WLTP range.

Like the previous 2022 versions of the Ioniq 5, fast charging the battery can be done in 18 minutes (10% to 80%) at a 350 kW charger thanks to its 800 volts charging architecture. At a 50 kW charger, it can be done in 73 minutes. At home, a 7 kW charger will charge the pack in just under 12 hours.

With 78 being delivered in December, the Ioniq 5 remains a fairly popular EV with its unique design and technology. Previously the Hyundai Ioniq 5 drops by Hyundai Australia have been very popular with prospective customers picking them up within minutes of it going live.

Given this is one of the largest drops coming up on January 19th at 1 pm with a newer model, it’s expected to be sold out within minutes – as previous “drops” have done, much to the frustration of customers who missed out.

It’s also worth noting that all 250 vehicles as part of this drop have now landed in Australia and lucky customers who can secure one will be having deliveries within 2-4 weeks.

We just hope the rollouts in the coming months will match or exceed this one to further accelerate EV uptake across the country.
