Hummer electric ute and SUV sold out for at least two years

The electric Hummer ute (or pickup) and the electric SUV from have proven to be hot tickets since their launch just over a year ago, so much so that both formats are “sold out for two years or more.”

Buick and GMC global vice president Duncan Aldred told a media briefing of the larger than expected sales ahead of the reveal of the company’s latest electric offering, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV.

According to GM Authority Aldred noted that both the Hummer EV Pickup and SUV are “sold out for two years or more.” While not a huge surprise – considering that GM currently holds 90,000 reservations of the Hummer EV in both its Pickup and SUV variants – it nevertheless serves to highlight the phenomenal demand for electric pickups/utes and SUVs.

We know that reservations don’t always lead to purchases, but GM has reportedly only produced 2,570 units of the Hummer EV Pickup as of September 2022.

GM Authority has also reported that GM built 750 units of the Hummer EV Pickup in September, revealing increasing production output, though still well short of where the company would like to be.

What won’t help in the near-term is the idling of Hummer EV production in November as the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan undergoes upgrades.

Reuters reported earlier in October that GM was ramping up EV assembly plans for the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Silverado EV, and Hummer EV Pickup. With any luck, and with plans to bolster production shifts for the Hummer EVs in 2023, production will begin to ramp up faster than has been seen so far.
