BYD leaps rivals to become Australia’s second best selling EV brand in October

BYD hit another production milestone in October after delivering more than 217,816 EVs during the month. That’s a significant jump of 169% increase in year-on-year production.

This comes after 8 straight months of production growth. This makes BYD the world’s largest NEV (New Energy Vehicles) manufacturer. 

With expansion into Australia, New Zealand, Europe and many other parts of the world this year, it’s now heading towards becoming a 100% BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles) global player.

BYD produced 217,816 vehicles, a rise of 169% compared to October 2021. With deliveries now spanning multiple continents, including Australia, the scale of BYD’s production capabilities is only just beginning to be understood.

Since the beginning of 2021, BYD has grown their passenger vehicle production by nearly ten folds. With new production figures for export markets approaching a new high of 9,529 NEVs for the month, this trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

BYD now the second-best-selling EV brand in Australia

Australia has been waiting for affordable ground-up EVs for years now. With the demand for EVs at an all-time high, The Driven understands that BYD is now Australia’s second-best-selling EV brand for the month of October, behind only Tesla.

This is BYD’s second full month of deliveries of their popular EV SUV model, the Atto 3, but their data is not yet included in the official VFacts data which shows that the Model Y accounted for more than half of all EV sales in October.

There is a clear demand for ground-up efficient, affordable EVs and with BYD Atto 3 qualifying for nearly all state subsidies, it’s been a winner among motorists looking at making the switch to an EV.

With more models potentially on the cards for other right-hand drive markets like the UK in the coming months, many will also be destined for markets like ours. With the demand for affordable EVs picking up speed, BYD EV deliveries in Australia will only go in one direction from here.
