XPeng, an EV-only brand, has started deliveries of its newest electric SUV called the XPeng G9. It happens to also be the fastest-charging passenger EV on the market anywhere in the world. This comes just a month after XPeng officially announced that it was taking orders.

The SUV boasts NEDC range of up to 700 km and is priced from $67,000 AUD, all the way up to $100,000 AUD.

The first deliveries of the G9 were made in the city of Guangzhou as reported by cnevpost. This is also where the EV-only manufacturer is based. With the new naming convention for the G9’s variants, XPeng is marketing its newest EV SUV differently from previous models.

The XPeng G9 variants include:

  • Plus
  • Pro
  • Max

The previous naming convention was G, E & X respectively. The specs remain unchanged with the AWD Max model reaching 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and offering a range of up to 650 km from its 96 kWh battery pack.

The same battery is capable of charging the car at up to 430 kW and utilising the new 480 kW ultrarapid chargers the company is now starting to deploy. These chargers can charge this EV from 10% to 80% in 15 minutes.

The headline feature of XPeng G9 is its ability to charge with XPeng’s S4 ultrarapid chargers where 200 km of range can be added to this family EV SUV in 5 minutes. This sets a new benchmark in EV charging speeds for production EVs.Ā

It’s exciting to see the pace of EV and battery technology development and XPeng’s G9 showcases that. This technology will trickle down into other XPeng models as well as other brands in the coming years which will make range and charger anxiety a thing of the past.
