Tesla has expanded its real-time insurance offering in the United States to two more states, bringing the total number of states covered up to 10.

In unsurprising Tesla style, no official announcement was made except for a minor update to its website which added Utah and Maryland to the list of states now offering Tesla Insurance.

Tesla Insurance provides insurance based on real-time driving behaviour and what Tesla model you drive, and is available to all Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y owners in a limited number of states across the US.

Utilising specific features already within the vehicle to evaluate the premium of the vehicle, a Tesla Insurance premium is based on which vehicle you drive, your provided address, how much you drive, what coverage you select, and the vehicle’s monthly Safety Score.

With this latest expansion, Tesla Insurance is now available in:

  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Nevada
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Virginia

Tesla Insurance is also available California, but this is not the real-time data version, as the company has yet to be able to get its product adopted there – though the company was recently able to begin letting people who have Tesla Insurance use the Drive Safety Score for
“educational purposes”.

Further expansion is also expected, with recent filings noticed in Florida and New Jersey, and with Tesla CEO Elon Musk promising late last year that Tesla Insurance would be in most US states by the end of 2022.
