The British Transport Police Authority has recently taken delivery of two electric vehicles which will be operating on patrol, including a Tesla Model 3 and a Kia EV6.
Lucy D’Orsi, the Chief Constable of British Transport Police (BTP) – which polices the railway network – revealed on Twitter that the BTP had taken delivery of a Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6 over the first week of July.
These are not the first electric cars to begin policing in Great Britain but are the first for the British Transport Police.
We’ve already covered electric vehicles operating in British law enforcement, such as the 75 Nissan LEAFs and e-NV200s which were delivered to the Gloucestershire Constabulary back in 2020, and which immediately proved their worth in anti-poaching operations.
Similarly, a Tesla Model 3 was under trial by UK police during 2021 and passed with flying colours, yielding a “mind-blowing” response from the public.
And while there have been some concerns raised recently by the Gloucestershire Police and Crime Commissioner, Chris Nelson, over EVs running out of charge while on duty, this seems to be less an issue with the vehicles themselves and more with EV fleet management.
