Hyundai reveals new Ioniq 5 pricing and variants ahead of new stock release

Hyundai has revealed interesting new changes for its range of Ioniq 5 electric SUVs ahead of a new “drop” of cars on Wednesday, July 20.

The entry-level Ioniq 5 2WD has been renamed the Dynamiq and is now $2,000 cheaper than previously, while the AWD variant has gone up in price by around $1,500 and will now be known as the Techniq.

This means the rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 will now start from under $69,900 before on-road costs, still out of range of state-based EV rebates, while the all-wheel-drive model will start from $77,500.

New tech specs additions and cuts

A range of technical specifications and features also form part of the new Ioniq 5 offering from Hyundai.

While the 2WD Dynamic still barely misses out from being available for NSW, Victoria and South Australia $3,000 EV rebates, it does get a decent boost in driving range and new 19″ wheels.

An extra 30km driving range has been added to the Dynamiq compared to the outgoing 2021 2WD model, bringing it up to 481km (WLTP). The AWD Techniq range remains the same at 430km (WLTP).

The new 19″ alloys in a gloss black machine finish improve the Dynamic’s aerodynamic performance, says Hyundai, helping it to achieve a fuel efficiency of 168Wh/km (down from 179Wh/km) according to WLTP ratings.

Both models will now get a heads-up display as well as vehicle-to-load capability inside the vehicle with a 15A/250-volt rating similar to that of the Kia EV6.

Power output remains the same (160kW for the RWD and 155kW/70kW on the rear/front for the AWD), as does the 72.6kWh battery size.

Sadly, AWD Techniq does away with the included “vision roof” with sunblind. Drivers will still be able to get the sunroof when Hyundai makes it available later in the year but will have to pay an additional $1,500 for it.

Other high spec features remain. From its 10-way electric heated seats and two-way lumbar for the driver, Bose audi and powered tailgate, the RWD Dynamiq remains the same Tardis-like homage to the “space age” we’ve seen before.

As with the Techniq, which also gets ventilated seats, and memory settings for all seats, as well as rear window sunshades.

Next drop of Hyundai Ioniq 5s

Those keen to take advantage of the cheaper RWD Dynamiq pricing unfortunately will have to wait until later in 2022, as will those wanting to order the new AWD Techniq with vision sunroof.

There will be exactly 119 AWD Techniqs available from 1pm Wednesday in a range of colour and specs, with an estimated delivery time of 4-6 weeks for successful customers (depending on signing date of contract).

Buyers will need to be quick: Previous drops of Ioniq 5s have sold out within minutes, with limited supply meeting head on with increasing demand of EVs as petrol prices soar and consumer confidence in the new technology rises.

Hyundai says cars will be available in every state with the exception of the Northern Territory, and that following this latest tranche there will be another order drop in August.
