Genesis GV60: Pricing, specs and details of luxury EV officially revealed

Official specifications, pricing and other details for the Genesis GV60 luxury electric crossover have finally broken cover.

An industry pricing leak on Friday that was confirmed by a Genesis spokesperson to The Driven on Monday revealed that just two variants would go on sale in Australia starting at a premium of $103,700 before on-roads for a standard AWD variant.

A second Performance AWD variant commands an extra $7,000 on top of that, coming in at $110,700.

Now, Hyundai’s luxury arm has revealed additional details, including the power output of the AWD model, which will be 234kW combined, with most of the power – 160kW – on the rear axle. Just 74kW will issue from the front-wheel drive, making this a largely rear-wheel-driven vehicle. This combination provides max torque of 605Nm.

The Performance AWD GV60 will rather deliver the same power – 180kW – from both the front and rear axles, making 360kW combined with 700Nm maximum torque.

While both vehicles come with a dual-motor set up, they are also able to be driven in a pure RWD, thanks to a “Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) that can separate or connect the motor and the drive shaft according to driving conditions,” said Genesis.

Acceleration boost and sound

Genesis did not specify exact acceleration details for the AWD GV60 (overseas outlets put this figure at 5.3 seconds), but did say that the Performance AWD variant can sprint from a standing start to 100km/hr in 4.6 seconds.

A Boost Mode button will give it some extra get-up-and-go, enabling added power for up to 10 seconds to bring the 0-100 time down to 4 seconds.

If the dynamic feel of the GV60’s instant torque isn’t quite enough, Genesis has also added specially designed sounds to accompany speed and accelerator inputs. Drivers get a choice between a “soft and sporty” engine-like sound known as “G-Engine”, or an “E-Motor” imagined EV sound, because why not.

Ultra-rapid charging, driving range and V2L

Built on the same platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, the GV60 gets a dual 400/800-volt electrical architecture, which means it can charge at a top rate of 350kW from 10-80% in 18 minutes according to Genesis.

The AWD model is rated for 470km WLTP (which equals around 420km in conservative real-world conditions), and 466km WLTP for the Performance AWD model.

Of course the ability to reach 350kW depends on how empty the battery is. With a 77.4kWh battery beneath the floor that in a first for Genesis has temperature management to maintain optimum condition, 10-80% equals around 54kWh of power added in that 18 minutes, or (in theory) around 16km a minute on average).

Also thanks to the e-GMP platform, the GV60 has the ability to charge devices using the car’s high-powered lithium-ion battery. Known as vehicle-to-load (V2L), the GV60 allows both charging via the external plug using an adapter at a rate of 3.6kW, and internally via a 240-volt power outlet.

Sleek design with clamshell bonnet

The GV60’s sleek profile makes a bid to convey Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” branding that seeks to cement the GV60 as a high-performance electric vehicle.

Twin-lamp headlights, the Genesis crest and a clamshell bonnet put a smart step forward with a finishign polish in the form of the wing emblem and a clever Guilloché pattern. On the side, virtual mirrors and flush door handles underline an understated elegance.

Underpinning this impressive visage is a 2,900mm wheelbase with short overhangs, and 20-inch alloys for the AWD and 21-inch for Performance AWD.

Exterior colours are available in 10 flavours: from a solid lime green, a mica white, and eight metallics including silver, grey, black, blue, burgundy, red, mint green and copper.

A matte white mica and matte metallic grey or copper are also available for the Performance AWD, for an additional $2,000.

Interior space, colours and that crystal ball

Inside, the GV60 presents a spacious cabin that is available in three colour options for each of the AWD and Performance AWD.

Pleasingly, Genesis has followed the lead of the Ioniq 5 and EV6 with a centre console that makes a break from the dashboard to open up leg space in the front row. This allows for more storage space as well as a charging spot for devices.

Both variants are available in black or ash grey and white with copper accents for the AWD and metallic accents for the Performance AWD. The AWD also has a green/white with copper accents option, while the Performance AWD also has a navy with metallic accent option.

Not neglecting its position as an EV with a futuristic outlook, Genesis has included a crystal ball-shaped drive selector that we have to say has the potential to be a bit naff. But who is to say until we get to drive it.

Comfort and convenience

Aimed at premium buyers, there are naturally loads of comfort and convenience inclusions, from fingerprint authentication to 12-way power seats for both the driver and front passenger, to remote smart parking assist (although we won’t vouch for that based on experiences with the Kia and Hyundai e-GMP models just yet!)

Set for first deliveries come September, the GV60 is Genesis’ first EV to be built on the e-GMP all-electric platform developed by parent company Hyundai Motor Group.
