The Kia EV6 has been one of the best looking EVs to hit the Australian shores in the last 6 months. Hundreds of prospective customers are still waiting for this EV that has a good range and quite a futuristic look.
Which new Kia EV6 variants owners have been ending up with in their driveways? New data of all EV6 delivered to Australia reveals their choices and gives an indication of what’s to come.
The new data shows that over 94% of the buyers ended up with the more luxurious GT-Line model in Australia so far. Less than 6% of the delivered cars are the more affordable EV6 Air RWD model.

This was found from 310 cars delivered to Australian customers in 2022 so far. This included dealer demonstrators as well as the EV6 deliveries to private and business customers.
Used EV6 are one of the rarest EVs
Last week I compared the difference between two very popular electric SUVs from Korea, including the Kia EV6. At that time, there were no used Kia EV6s available for sale on carsales, but one has now surfaced.

This car has over a thousand kms on it and is price at more than $10,000 over the driveaway price of a new GT-Line AWD model. The price markups on the used EV market are as high as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but nowhere near close to the best selling EV in Australia, the Tesla Model 3.
Opportunity for the more affordable model to increase uptake
As The Driven recently reported, some customers are flipping Kia EV6s for a huge margin and many buyers are waiting months on end to get behind the wheel of their first EV. This trend is continuing well into the rest of 2022.
Despite this, I feel there is an opportunity for Kia to bring in more of the Air models to Australia. That will give more people a chance to get behind the wheel of one and can be eligible for a subsidy in some of the states. This in turn will increase the EV uptake which is much needed to decarbonise our road transport.
