Tesla opens up more Superchargers to non-Tesla EVs in Norway

Around two thirds of all Tesla Superchargers in Norway have been opened up to allow non-Tesla owners to charge their EVs, with 42 additional stations made available last week.

According to YouTuber Bjørn Nyland, there are now 58 Tesla Superchargers available to be used by all EV owners, delivering more than 500 additional charging stalls. It is not clear if Tesla plans to open up the remaining 30 Supercharger locations to non-Tesla EVs.

The expectation is that Tesla will keep some Superchargers as Tesla-only locations, especially at sites that have fewer stalls – unlike in the Netherlands, where all Tesla Superchargers have been opened up for non-Tesla EVs.

The first 15 Supercharger stations in Norway were opened for non-Tesla EVs in January, following the pilot launch of its non-Tesla Supercharger access in the Netherlands in November 2021, which was then expanded to include all Superchargers in the Netherlands in February.

In addition to the Netherlands and Norway, Tesla offers non-Tesla EVs the opportunity to charge at its Superchargers in 16 locations in France.

To use the Tesla Supercharging network as a non-Tesla owner, customers nevertheless need to use the Tesla app and select a single-use or subscription monthly fee (which offers a lower price per kWh), with prices depending on the locations.

Worth noting is that given the shorter cables in use at Supercharger locations and the layout of many of the stations, not all EVs are able to access the charging stalls with the same ease as a Tesla.
