Ford Australia is to bring its third electrified vehicle to Australia with an all-electric E-Transit Custom van due to land in 2024.
The E-Transit Custom boasts a targeted driving range of up to 380-kilometres, DC fast-charging, and full towing capability, and is initially aimed at European markets.
“This is a watershed moment for commercial vehicle operators in Europe, and another hugely significant realisation of our Ford Pro ambitions,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe.
“Europe’s best-selling van just went all-electric and – supported by our unique Ford Pro one-stop-shop of productivity-boosting services – the operating benefits this will bring to business across Europe cannot be overstated.”
Further, and in a rarity for Australia, Ford Australia announced simultaneously that the new E-Transit Custom would be coming to Australia in 2024, part of what Ford describes as the most extensive Transit range ever to be offered to local customers.
“The E-Transit Custom is exactly the kind of versatile, practical van business customers are looking for, with the benefit of zero-emissions efficiency,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand.
“We are focused on deeply understanding the needs of commercial vehicle customers and bringing them the best of our global line-up.”
All new all-electric E-Transit Customs will be built alongside other Transit variants by Ford Otosan, Ford’s joint venture in Turkey, at their Kocaeli site.
Ford expects the new E-Transit Custom will set a new benchmark in the one-tonne van segment and is a key piece in the company’s commitment to reach zero emissions for all Ford vehicle sales in Europe and carbon neutrality across its European footprint by 2035.
Production of the new all-electric Transit is due to begin in the second half of 2023 ahead of deliveries beginning in Europe and Australia in 2024.
The announcement of the new E-Transit Custom delivers on Ford’s promise made earlier this year that by 2024 it would deliver four new all-electric vehicles to its line-up, including the Transit Custom and Transit courier vans as well as the Tourneo Custom and Tourneo Courier people movers.
