GM to make electric Corvette to challenge the Tesla Roadster

US car giant General Motors has confirmed it will produce an electrified Chevrolet Corvette next year, and could even reach the market around the same time as Tesla’s much anticipated electric Roadster II.

“We will have an electrified Corvette next year, so it’s coming very quick,” GM president told CNBC earlier this week.

“This is in addition to all of the great performance that Chevrolet and Corvette have been known for, for many, many years with our internal combustion engines.”

The news was confirmed by Chevrolet’s official Twitter account (above) as well as by Reuss on his personal LinkedIn account.

“Some time ago we moved the Corvette team into the EV space in Warren, Michigan, and when we revealed the new mid-engine Corvette, I said there would be ‘more to come,’” Reuss wrote on LinkedIn.

“This morning I sat down with Phil LeBeau of CNBC and finally answered the question I’ve been asked countless times.

“Yes, in addition to the amazing new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and other gas-powered variants coming, we will offer an electrified and a fully electric, Ultium-based Corvette in the future. In fact, we will offer an electrified Corvette as early as next year. Details and names to come at a later date.”

GM announced at the beginning of 2021 its goal of selling only electric vehicles by 2035, although in the first quarter of 2022 it sold just 457 plug-in electric vehicles in the US.
