British electric vehicle (EV) charging manufacturer and installer Andersen EV launched over the weekend a first for EV home chargers, unveiling camouflaged chargers that can match the wall box to the exterior design of a house, removing yet another barrier for anyone concerned with a big white box ruining the design of their homes.
Andersen EV’s new Andersen-2-Invisible (A-2-I), which is already on sale for £9,999 (around $A17,500), builds on the company’s existing 96 different colour options by installing high-definition 4k mini-screens built into the front and side panels of the wall box.
Using pictures taken by the customer of the backdrop they want the wall to mimic, the screens then effectively transform the wall box into a camouflaged version of the wall behind it.
The Andersen A2 charger offers charging power of 3.6kW, 7kW, or 22kW, and is compatible with all type 2 electric and hybrid vehicles. Already with a minimal design and a cable which can be completely hidden from view, the new A-2-I takes the minimalism to a whole new level.
Camouflage mode can be activated through the company’s Konnect+ app, with customers able to upload a picture to the app whenever they want – and which presumably allows for a lot more options, given one’s imagination.
Even when the camouflage mode is turned off, however, customers can still enjoy the original design of the Andersen wall box. And even with its 4k mini screens, the box has still been covered in a waterproof film to ensure it can cope with local British conditions.
“Our brand mission has always been to produce elegant charge points which customers can personalise to match the design of their house,” said Cameron O’Flage, head of the technology at Andersen EV.
“With the introduction of the A-2-I to our product range, we’ve taken that ambition to the extreme.
“We are proud our chargers are already compatible with every EV on the market, now they’re compatible with every house on the market.”
