German automaker Porsche has set itself a target of ensuring that 80% of all new vehicle sales will be all-electric by 2030, building on the company’s previous goal of reaching 50% all-electric vehicles by 2025.
Porsche announced the new goal on the back of its most recent financial results, which revealed the company hit sales of €33.1 billion in 2021, €4.4 billion more than in the previous year and representing 15% growth.
“Our positive business result is based on courageous, innovative and forward-looking decisions,” said Oliver Blume, chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.
“Our industry is experiencing what is probably the greatest transformation in its history.”
But it was the company’s new electrification goal that has attracted most attention, and comes as almost 40% of all new Porsche vehicles delivered in Europe in 2021 were at least partly electrified – be it a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or fully electric (EV).
“In 2025, half of all new Porsche sales are expected to come from the sale of electric vehicles – i.e., all-electric or plug-in hybrid,” said Blume. “In 2030, the share of all new vehicles with an all-electric drive should be more than 80 percent.”
In addition to obviously increasing the number of electric models available, Porsche announced that it will invest in premium charging stations, both with partners and in its own charging infrastructure.
Porsche will also increase investments into core technologies such as battery systems and module production.
Leading the way, however, for Porsche, will be its all-electric Taycan, which saw delivery figures more than double in 2021, with 41,296 customers taking delivery of the company’s first all-electric vehicle.
“The Taycan is 100% a Porsche and inspires all kinds of people – existing and new customers, experts and the trade media,” said Blume. “We are stepping up our electric offensive with another model: By the middle of the decade, we want to offer our mid-engine 718 sports car exclusively in an all-electric form.”
Other upcoming electric vehicles expected from Porsche include a new Macan electric.
