Beam expands electric scooters to outer Brisbane suburbs

Leading Asia Pacific micromobility company Beam is bringing its popular e-scooters to more areas of wider-Brisbane this week, just in time for Christmas, with operations set to begin in the City of Logan on Wednesday.

The Singapore quartered Beam is rolling out up to 500 of its Saturn X e-scooter to the City of Logan, continuing a country-wide rollout which has seen the company begin operations in Western Australia, New South Wales, Canberra, Tasmania, and Queensland.

Beam provides two publicly available micromobility options, the Beam Saturn X e-scooter and the Beam Apollo e-bike, which can be hired using the Beam app to locate the nearest available option, allowing you to pay and learn how to ride, and unlocking the bike or scooter from its virtual docking system.

And, when you are done you simply leave it in a visible public place so the next rider can easily find it. Beam provides e-scooters for locals at an unlock fee of $1 and a $0.45 operating fee per minute.

“There is great potential for micromobility to aid in increased connectivity for residents to travel to and from shops and places of work, study and play, similar to what we’ve seen in inner-city Brisbane,” said Beam general manager ANZ Tom Cooper. “They have also been popular as a great way to explore the city.

In early-December Beam said it will begin operations in Western Australia, rolling out its e-scooters in Esperance, Bunbury, and Rockingham.

Similarly, Beam has been steadily rolling out its e-scooters across Queensland over the past year, with operations beginning in Townsville in October 2020, Port Douglas and Townsville’s James Cook University in August, Magnetic Island in Far-North Queensland in September, and more areas of Brisbane including Sandgate, Wynnum, and Manly in November.
