Genesis unveils GV70 luxury electric SUV with vehicle-to-load

Genesis Motors, the luxury vehicle division of South Korean automaker Hyundai, officially unveiled the all-electric version of its GV70, with a range upwards of 400 kilometres and maximum power output of 360kW.

Unveiled at China’s Auto Guangzhou show expo at the end of last week, the Electrified GV70 is targeted at “youthful and energetic Chinese customers,” said SangYup Lee, head of Genesis global design. “This is more than just a new electrified SUV. It is a statement for Genesis design that marks new territory.”

The all-wheel drive SUV delivers 214-horsepower and 258lb-ft of torque from a motor on each axle with a maximum power output marked at 482-horsepower and 516lb-ft of torque. This delivers acceleration of 0 to 100km/h in 4.5-seconds in Boost Mode.

Genesis claims all-electric range upwards of 500-kilometres based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) measurement standard, or 400-kilometres based on the Korean EV certification system.

A 350kW rapid charging system allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Or, thanks to a 400V/800V multi-rapid charging system, drivers will be able to take advantage of multiple forms of charging infrastructure.

The all-electric GV70 also includes Vehicle to Load (V2L) supporting a 3.6kW charge, while the Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) allows for automatic switching between 2WD or AWD depending on driving condition.

This will also be the first Genesis model to be fitted with the SUV-specific e-Terrain Mode which enables a stable driving experience in various environments.

New “cutting-edge” technologies also included in the new all-electric GV70 consist of a smart regenerative braking system which regenerates energy through the braking system based on driving habits as well as the i-Pedal, which allows the driver to accelerate, decelerate, and stop using just the accelerator pedal.

Stylistically, Genesis Motors’ all-electric GV70 looks much the same as its ICE-model predecessor, with small changes only including a revised grille with an integrated charge port door.

There was no word from the company’s official press release detailing when the Electrified GV70 will make its on-road debut.
