Apple won’t launch an electric car until 2025, reports say

Smartphone giant Apple could debut an electric car in 2025 and has refocused the project to include complete self-driving capabilities, Bloomberg reports.

Codenamed Project Titan, the Apple car project does indeed seem to be living up to its colossal name, but perhaps more in a slow-moving way than with any decisive, monumental impact.

An Apple electric car has been reported on and off over the years since 2014 but in 2016 it was reported the tech giant had pulled the plug on the program.

More recent reports including news the tech giant has placed the project under the guidance of Apple Watch chief Kevin Lynch after its last project lead left for Ford suggest that the Apple car is still a going concern.

The latest reports suggest the Apple electric car will be completely autonomous and devoid of a steering wheel and pedals, with interiors geared for hands-free driving.

An electric car without steering wheel and pedals was also touted by Tesla’s Elon Musk in September when he hinted at an autonomous electric hatchback.

According to Bloomberg, the project has made recent progress including on its self-driving system, processing chips, and improved sensors, but some personnel working on the project remained concerned about the schedule.

Apple has not responded to the report, the news agency said. Following Bloomberg’s latest report, Apple’s stock jumped nearly 3% to a new high.
