MG5 EV named best value business car

The famours British automotive marque MG – now owned by Chinese interests – has been honoured by Business Car Magazine after its MG5 EV was named Best Value Car.

Though we’re not able to see the MG5 EV on Australian roads yet, MG added a new Long Range model during the middle of the year which it claims “offers unbeatable practicality, value and low running costs for fleet operators and company car drivers.”

Martyn Collins, Business Car Editor, who presented the award, said the MG5 combines family car practicality with long-range battery capacity, “at a price which could open up EV motoring to a wider selection of business drivers than had previously been the case.”

Launched in 2020 in the UK and unveiled for Europe earlier this year, the 2021 MG5 EV was billed as the “world’s first 100% electric station wagon” and boasts a generous 578-litres of luggage space that can be expanded to 1,456-lietres when the rear seats are folded down.

It offers a range of 400-kilometres (WLTP), and a starting price of £26,495 (around $A49,000).

“More and more fleet users are realising that the MG5 EV is a fantastic proposition from much greater than just a cost perspective,” said Geraint Isaac, MG Motor’s head of fleet sales.

“And our EV offering is about to get even better with the imminent introduction of the new longer-range MG ZS EV, which will give us another highly desirable car for business users.”

The 2021 MG5 EV was recently voted Best Value EV by WhichEV? for the second time – having already awarded the previous standard range model Best Value EV earlier this year.

It is unknown when or even if Australia will see the MG5 EV, but that still leaves us with the MG ZS EV, which was introduced to Australia in late 2020, surprising drivers with the lowest EV price on the current market of $43,990 drive away, before state incentives.
