Genesis Motors, the luxury vehicle division of South Korean automotive giant Hyundai, has teased images of the GV60, its first electric SUV, which is due to arrive on Australian shores in the first half of 2022.
The Genesis GV60 is based on Hyundai’s dedicated EV platform, EV-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), upon which is also designed the soon-to-arrive Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.
The GV60 was spotted in the wild back in March in South Korea, and last week Hyundai unveiled the first official images of the SUV decked out in lime green.
Sleek in design with a rear-end that subtly mirrors Porsche’s SUVs, the GV60 retains the brand’s signature Two-Line Quad Lamps which the company says will “add character to a refined and voluminous body.” Boasting also a wider “Crest Grille”, though dropped lower than on Genesis’ larger cars thanks to an EVs reduced cooling requirements.
Genesis also allowed us to peer inside the GV60, with its digital side mirrors taking the view inside the car and a one-piece digital display that runs from behind the steering wheel into the centre.
Probably the most important aspect of the GV60’s interior design for Genesis is its Crystal Sphere, a sphere-shaped Shift By Wire (SBW) that the company believes “is one of the most compelling design elements of the GV60.”
Located in the floating centre console, the Crystal Sphere “becomes the vehicle’s mood lights” when the vehicle is turned off, “adding to the aesthetic of the driving experience.” Meanwhile, when you want to actually get to driving, “the sphere rotates and the SBW appears, creating an indoor atmosphere of futuristic mobility.”
“The Crystal Sphere is not just a key element of the interior design, but also provides emotional connection with driver while indicating driving status,” the company explained.
However, as you can see in the image above, the centre console does serve to create a lot of extra space when combined with the slim cockpit and flat floor, providing extra room on the floor.
While the photos show a right-side-drive model destined for the Korea market, and specifications and features highlighted in the company press release are yet to be confirmed for international markets, we currently expect a full reveal of the GV60 in the coming weeks.
And, good news for Australian’s thinking that the GV60 looks mighty fine, we can expect to see the GV60 land in Australia in the first half of 2022.
