Mercedes teases new EQE electric sedan, expected for Australia

German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has teased details of its upcoming electric sedan, the EQE, which will be unveiled in September, along with two other electric models that will also come to Australia, eventually.

Mercedes-Benz says it will use its appearance at the IAA Mobility 2021 conference in Munich in September to unveil a number of models from electric mobility line-up, including compact models, luxury sedans, and multi-purpose vehicles.

Maybe most newsworthy amongst these debuts is the hotly anticipated EQE, an electric business sedan which will fit in below the EQS that Mercedes unveiled earlier this year.

Mercedes announced in late-2020 that it was preparing production of EQE to begin in the second half of 2021 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, and then shortly afterwards at the company’s Beijing plant.

Though the full reveal of the EQE will have to wait until September, Mercedes teased two photos that give a hint of the car’s body, and a more detailed look inside the car.

According to Mercedes, the EQE “combines dynamic performance and handling with relaxed travel – and sets the new benchmark in its class.”

In addition to the EQE’s unveiling, Mercedes announced that it will use also debut the first battery-electric luxury sedan from Mercedes-AMG – one of the company’s many subsidiaries.

The unnamed and unspecified car will reportedly demonstrate “the brand’s clear commitment to fuse fully electric models with characteristic AMG DNA” which, apparently, “applies not only to its performance figures, but more especially to its involving and emotional handling.”

Both the EQE and the Mercedes-AMG saloon will make an appearance in Australia next year, with reports suggesting that the AMG should arrive in early 2022 and the EQE in late-2022.

An even more secretive concept vehicle will also be unveiled by the historic Mercedes-Maybach subsidiary brand, which is supposed to convey “a first, precise impression of how the 100-year tradition of ultimate automotive luxury can be carried forward into a new era.”

Mercedes will also present its EQB electric compact SUV, a European premiere, following its international debut earlier this year.

Mercedes-AMG will also present its first performance hybrid from Affalterbach under the technology label E Performance. Mercedes-Benz will also premiere the S-Class Guard and the first C-Class All-Terrain.
