Tesla electric vehicle chargers disguised as old fashioned petrol pumps

An electric vehicle charger has been photographed in the US state of Pennsylvania with a design that takes a massive leap into the past.

Installed near the “Inside Scoop”, an icecream parlour in the town of Coopersburg, the retro-style EV charger has all the looks of an old-fashioned petrol pump when the days of the combustion engine were still in infancy.

The “gas pump” charger houses two Tesla destination chargers that can charge at up to 16kW, while next to the red pillar are two Type 2 connectors that according to Plugshare, a site and app that helps EV drivers find places to charge, is free.

It’s not the first time the retro charger has been spotted. When photos of the Tesla pillar (pre-Type 2 addition) were first posted on sical forum Reddit, they went viral with the post now upvoted 15,000 times.

According to Evannex, which covered the story at the time, the charger was installed by Inside Scoop owner Tony Caciolo who love the 50s era but are also very enthusiastic about next-generation electric cars.

The little retro red charger is not the only way electric vehicle chargers are funding themselves integrating with old-style elements of the urban environment.

In the UK, tech giant Siemens and electric vehicle charging solutions provider ubitricity converted every single lamp post on a Westminster street so that they could be used as EV chargers.
