Australia’s first V3 Tesla Supercharger opens in Tasmania

Australia’s first Tesla V3 Supercharger, which can add almost 400km of driving range in 15-20 minutes, has been opened at Devonport in Tasmania.

Tesla first introduced V3 Superchargers in 2019, rolling initial units out to the Bay area in California before expanding the V3 program to overseas markets.

But Australia – which lags behind in the worldwide EV transition – has up to until now been put in the back seat of Tesla’s V3 upgrade program.

This is now changing. Three 250kW units went online in the “gateway to Tasmania” right in front of the docking point for the Spirit of Tasmania ferry from Melbourne on Monday.

Not only are the first V3 Superchargers in Australia, they are also the first Superchargers of any kind  for the island state.

Work has also commenced on a number of other V3 sites, including Toombul in Queensland, and Corio and Colac in Victoria.

Images shared to The Driven of the Toombul site reveal that this will house six V3 Supercharger units.

An official opening of the Devonport site will take place on June 3 at 11am.
