German luxury vehicle company Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new premium vehicle in the small van segment, which it promises will have an all-electric variant.

The Mercedes-Benz Vans Concept EQT is described as a “near-series-production concept vehicle” and is intended to translate the success of the company’s V-Class into a more compact format. Looking a little like a London Black Cab in the press photos provided by Mercedes-Benz, the EQT will seemingly first hit markets with an internal combustion engine.

Though the “EQ” sub-brand is Mercedes-Benz’s electric offering, the company offered no indication of when the all-electric option will be available. As such, the EQT will first be available as a T-Class and a fully-electric variant “will follow later.”

Designed in line with the Mercedes-EQ style the Concept EQT also, for reasons not yet entirely clear, includes an electric longboard which packs away into a specific compartment in the boot.

“The Concept EQT is a new, holistic van with the Design DNA of ‘Sensual Purity’,” said Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group. “Sensuous shapes, elegant trims and sustainable materials show that this van clearly belongs to our Mercedes-EQ family.”

Boasting a richly upholstered interior in white and black, the instrument panel looks a little squishy, but eye-catching in white and sky blue.

Measuring in at 4,945mm in length, 1,863mm in width, and 1,826mm in height, the Concept EQT features sliding doors on both sides which allows adults of all sizes to easily access the third row of seats. A panoramic sunroof also boasts a starscape lasered into it which floods the interior with light.

The third-row seats can also be folded or removed completely to provide more luggage space, and a vertical tailgate and window further provides spacious load compartment.

“The Concept EQT gives an outlook on how space and maximum variability can also be combined with stylish comfort in the small van segment,” said Marcus Breitschwerdt. “Our future T-Class is a true multi-talent and with it we will attract new customer groups and grow sustainably.”
