The Volkswagen ID.4 and Honda e were voted the top vehicles in their categories in the 2021 World Car awards announced today.

Electric cars featured in the top three of every category in the 2021 World Car awards, with the odd exception of the Performance Car category.

At the top of the pile was Volkswagen’s ID.4, an electric crossover SUV that won against the Honda e and the Toyota Yaris in the major category, the World Car of the Year. It will be the first electric vehicle brought by Volkswagen into Australia, although VW Australia boss Michael Bartsch recently said that may not be until 2023 because of government policy.

The Honda e was not to be outdone however, claiming first place ahead of the Honda Jazz and Toyota Yaris in the World Urban Car category.

Also appearing in top three positions were the Polestar 2 in the World Luxury Car category, while the cute Honda e made a third appearance in the World Car Design of the Year category.

“There has never been a better time to highlight and celebrate the world’s best electric vehicles,” said auto show president Mark Schienberg in a statement.

“With the importance of EVs and growing consumer interest, the need for trusted sources for consumers to turn to is paramount, and like the New York Auto Show, the industry’s top journalists that make up the World Car Awards are a trusted resource for buyers as they research their next new vehicle,” he said.
