Alpha Motors, a California-based electric vehicle start-up, has unveiled a raft of photos and video of its Alpha Wolf, an electric utility truck (ute) in the same vein as a Toyota Hilux (rather than an old Holden Commodore ute) that will offer a range of over 400 kilometres.

The Wolf was unveiled on Twitter, on the company’s website, and in a meagre press release, focusing solely on the bevy of new photos available, detailing the car’s exterior and interior.

Nowhere did the company advertise any of the car’s features, leaving us to glean what we can from the Wolf’s new page on Alpha Motors website.

As such, the Wolf will be available in a dual-motor 4-wheel-drive or a single-motor front-wheel-drive and will offer a range of between 400-kilometres up to 445-kilometres. Accelerating from 0-60mph in 6.2-seconds and boasting a towing capacity of 1,360-kilograms (or around 3,000-pounds), the Wolf will measure in at 4,765mm in length with a 1,652mm long truck bed.

The Alpha Wolf will also offer rapid charging capabilities, and though the interior looks a little sparse and flung together for the publicity opportunity, that same simplicity may be a drawcard for some.

Alpha Motor’s unveiling of the Wolf comes at the same time that California-based rival Canoo unveiled an electric utility truck designed specifically for tradies, offering not only range of 320-kilometres, 447kW power output from dual motors, and 745Nm torque, but also powered workbenches, tool storage, and a modular expandable bed.

“We are so passionate about building vehicles that can change people’s lives,” said Tony Aquila, executive chair of Canoo, in a statement.

“Our pickup truck is as strong as the toughest trucks out there and is designed to be exponentially more productive. This truck works for you. We made accessories for people who use trucks – on the job, weekends, adventure. You name it, we did it because it’s your platform and she’s bad to the bone.”

Back in February, another electric ute made a splash, with US-based EV maker Rivian dropping a video of its soon-to-be-released electric ute smashing out a bunch of real-world and lab tests that will likely make any four-wheel-driving fan excited.
