Karma Automotive teases first all-electric luxury sedan

Karma Automotive, maker of the Revero plug-in hybrid luxury car, has teased its first fully electric luxury sedan and a new family of 2021 vehicles called the GS Series.

Announced on Monday, Karma Automotive revealed that it would begin selling its first ever battery electric (BEV) as part of the new GS Series family of vehicles expected to be released next year.

Very little in the way of actual specifics were made known – with the company’s press release focusing more on its new pre-reservation order site – but that new website included the name of the new BEV, the GSe-6, and revealed  the vehicle would have “Multiple Electrification Powertrain options up to 100kWh.”

Additionally, the GSe-6 will supposedly come with DC Fast Charging, all aluminium composite construction, and a blended three-mode regenerative braking system.

“We are pleased to announce that Karma will now offer our first all-electric vehicle next year as part of the GS series,” said Dr. Lance Zhou, Karma’s CEO.

“Cost reductions in the BOM, streamlining our supply chain and standardized production methods also allowed for a new, more attainable pricing structure for the GS lineup allowing for higher market penetration, opening up the market to a larger group of entry level luxury buyers.”

While the Karma 2020 Revero GT walked away as the winner of the Luxury Green Car of the Year Award, as awarded by the Green Car Journal, the company has a long road ahead of it as it looks to separate itself from the failed Fisker Automotive it once was, before being purchased and rebranded by China’s Wanxiang Group in 2014.

This is made all the more difficult considering Fisker’s re-emergence and its Fisker Ocean SUV with a built-in solar roof.
