A brand new 2021 Kona Electric will be revealed soon, Hyundai Australia said in a note to the press on Wednesday.
The confirmation that a refreshed Kona Electric will be announced for Australia came as the South Korean car maker revealed a new hybrid version of its popular compact SUV would also be introduced locally in early 2021.
The new hybrid version – which will compete against the hugely popular RAV4 hybrid which drove record sales for Toyota in July – will sport a 1.6litre engine coupled with a 32kW electric motor driven by a 1.56kWh battery for 103kW output.
The new Kona Electric, we can reveal, will come with the same 64kWh battery for up to 480km of zero emissions driving range.
The new 2021 Kona and a sporty Kona N line both have more streamlined profiles than the 2020 model.
Extra leg room in the back and cargo capacity will offer more space and comfort, Hyundai said in its statement.
SangYup Lee, senior VP for Hyundai’s global design centre said of the new 2021 line up that its “design inspiration” stems from a “positive spirit” and “a dedication to all the adventurers out there who explore life with a smile.”
The company did not reveal if the 2021 Kona Electric will express this same sunny attitude, however, so we will have to keep you in the dark on that until we also know more!
