Hyundai to unveil new electric vehicle concept named “Prophecy”

South Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai Motor Group has announced they will unveil a new concept electric vehicle (EV) code-named “Prophecy” at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show on March 3.

According to the company’s press release, the “Prophecy” both expresses the company’s “latest design language” and reflects the concept vehicle’s purpose – “defining the direction of future Hyundai designs, while establishing itself as a design icon for Hyundai’s EV lineup.”

Carrying over the traditional automotive press release preference for hyperbole and dramatic literary flourishes, Hyundai believes the “Prophecy” is in line with the company’s “Sensuous Sportiness” design philosophy: “the new concept embodies a beautiful silhouette accentuated by graceful curves flowing over broad rear flanks that provide excellent aerodynamics.

The boat-tail line created by the rear quarter panels are complemented by the integrated spoiler and pixel lamp taillights.”

“‘Prophecy’ does not follow trends,” said SangYup Lee, Head of Hyundai Global Design Center. “It accentuates timeless beauty that will stand the test of time. Its iconic design stands to expand Hyundai’s design spectrum toward even broader horizons.”

The Hyundai “Prophecy” concept EV will be unveiled on March 3 in advance of the Geneva International Motor Show – being held in the Swiss city of Geneva between the 5th and 15th of March.

Throughout the nearly-two-week show, Hyundai Motor Group will be showcasing its electrification strategy under the concept of “Real Progress is in the Air” – inspired by the new brand vision, ‘Progress for Humanity’, and exhibition contents.

The “Prophecy” is the latest step on Hyundai’s path towards transitioning into clean transport options which saw the company make three big announcements in January alone.

Hyundai became the first major company to partner with ridesharing platform Uber to develop Uber Air Taxis for future aerial ride sharing.

A few days later Hyundai joined South Korean automotive counterpart Kia in contributing €100 million ($A161 million) into UK electric vehicle start-up Arrival to develop purpose-built zero emissions delivery vehicles.

From a more PR-stunt-y point of view, a Hyundai Kona Electric broke the Guiness world record for the highest altitude reached by an electric vehicle at the Tibetan Sawula Pass.
