Polestar (the electric performance car brand jointly owned by Volvo Car Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding) will sell its new Polestar 2 all-electric performance fastback with a towbar option that has a braked 1500kg rating – the highest in its class.
Sadly, being the ‘class leader’ for EV towing is not hard, given few EV manufacturers have bothered to offer their EVs with a tow rating, despite the fact that EVs make better tow-cars than petrol ones due to their low end torque.
For UK buyers – reservations are now open for ‘guaranteed delivery in 2020’ with deliveries in the UK expected to begin in June.
The tow hitch option will add about £1000 to the cost of a Polestar 2 – starting price for which will start from £50,000.

However, as ever – Australia still has to wait for even a possible starting date here.
The initial launch markets for the Polestar 2 will be Belgium, Canada, China, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK, and the US with no mention of Australia – Polestar’s only comment being that “other markets are under consideration for future expansion”.
