Yet another all-electric concept car has taken home a prestigious title, and this time it is the retro-inspired e-Legend concept vehicle designed by French carmaker Peugeot.
The all-electric sports coupe made the list of nominations at the 34th International Automobile Festival held in Paris this week for the title of “Most Beautiful Concept Car”.
The announcement follows hot on the heels of news that Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis also won a coveted concept car award only days ago, from the esteemed Automobile magazine.
The Peugeot e-Legend beat a lofty range of contenders nominated for the title – all of them pure, battery electric vehicles – including the Audi PB18 E-tron, fellow French carmaker Renault’s EZ-Ultimo and the Volkswagen ID Vizzion.
While all are outstanding examples of the future of electric car design, the Peugeot e-Legend with it’s classic 504 lines was the one to win the judges’ ultimate approval.
“The expert and enthusiast jury members, hailing from the automotive, architecture, fashion and design sectors, were won over by the concept car, which embodies the exciting vision of the future of a 100% autonomous, electric, connected and customisable vehicle,” according to a statement released by Peugeot.
First launched at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the e-Legend is not only a pure electric embodiment residing in a classic retro cloak – it also brings an immersive experience to its driver thanks to AI-powered, voice-enabled conversation technology, and a luscious dash consisting of digital displays recalling that of the 504 Coupé.
Representing a “a realistic vision of the brand’s energy transition”, Peugeot says the e-Legend carries within it 100kWh of batteries, delivering 340kW and 800Nm torque through two motors across an all-wheel drive powertrain.
A range of 600km is achievable according to WLTP protocol, 1/6 of which can be recovered in 25 minutes according to the French automaker.
Able to accelerate from 0-100km/hr in as little as 4 seconds and travel at speeds of up to 220km/hr, this sleek and impressive all-electric concept is not for the insipid; but then, what electric car made in this day and age would ever now stoop to such levels.
If the trend in award-winning EV concepts is anything to go by – the future is most definitely electric.
