Swedish premium all-electric car brand Polestar is introducing new variants of its first all-electric offering, the Polestar 2, as it prepares to expand into 30 global markets by the end of 2022.

The new Polestar 2 fastback will be available in three powertrains options – a dual and single motor configuration with a long-range battery, and a single motor with a shorter range battery.

The new variants will also include the option to purchase a “Plus”, “Pilot” and “Performance” pack, the company announced along with European pricing for all variants and options.

Starting from 45,500 euros ($A72,954 converted) for the standard range variant, the Polestar 2 will also be available for 48,500 euros ($A77,764 converted) for the long-range single motor variant and 51,500 euros ($A82,574 converted) for the long-range dual-motor configuration.

The Pilot Pack is the base level option.

For an extra 3,500 euros ($A5,611) it includes enhanced safety and driver assistance features such as LED headlights and front fog lights, driver assist with adaptive cruise control and pilot assist, a 360-degree surround view camera and parking sensors, blind-spot system with steering support, cross-traffic alert with brake support, and rear collision warning.

The Plus Pack, which includes a heat pump for better energy efficiency in cold weather climates can be purchased for an additional 4,500 euros ($A7,215). Polestar says it reduces heating energy requirements by 50% and can improve range by up to 10% between 5-15 degrees Celsius.

It also includes premium additions such as a panoramic glass roof, Harmon Kardon speakers, heated seats, steering wheel and wiper nozzle, and memory for the front seats.

The Performance pack is only available on the dual motor variants and adds adjustable Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes, forged 20-inch alloy wheels and signature ‘Swedish gold’ details inside and out.

Australia has already been announced as a Polestar destination with a local launch expected in October, although local pricing details are yet to be revealed.

While retaining its digital-first approach to new markets, Polestar also announced plans to increase retail locations to 100 by the end of 2021.

A spokesperson for Polestar indicated Australia is likely to be on that list, with details to be confirmed.

All three variants of the Polestar 2 model range – Standard Range Single Motor, Long Range Single Motor and Long Range Dual Motor – will all be available in Australia, according to the company spokesperson.

“Growth on this scale is unprecedented and confirms our position as a truly global, pure EV brand,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath said.

The brand’s expansion plans also include countries in the Middle East such as Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg and Iceland.

Established in 2017, Polestar is a Swedish premium electric car brand founded by Volvo Cars and Geely Holding, headquartered in Gothenburg Sweden.
