BYD has launched its flagship sedan, which it calls the Da Han, featuring 5-minute flash charging tech, a 1,008 km range figure on the CLTC cycle and a price coming in at the equivalent of under $A52,000.

On the company’s Weibo page, BYD said the sedan has officially launched at the Chengdu Auto Show, where a red Da Han model on display revealed a LiDAR unit at the front, which is now common on many BYD models in China for autonomous driving, as well as large polished wheels, often seen on ultra-luxury cars.

One variant of the Da Han offers over 1,000 km of range and features the company’s new Blade Battery. This should translate to over 750 km on the WLTP cycle, making it one of the best long-range luxury sedans on the market.Ā

This battery will also support Flash Charging tech that can charge this SUV from 10-70% in just 5 minutes.Ā The charge time from 10-97% is just 9 minutes, which is probably quicker than stopping at a servo to fill up a large car.Ā

The battery pack itself is a 102 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) chemistry and will power the car’s RWD and AWD configuration variants.Ā

Specs on the Da Han include a single-motor version will come with a 370 kW rear-wheel-drive configuration, while the dual-motor version will have a combined power output of 570 kW.

That sort of power will be needed to move the whopping 5.26-metre-long  car with a gross weight of over 2,500 kg.

Another key feature found on the Da Han is a rear-wheel-steering setup which will help drive and turn the car on narrower roads.

On the inside, this model has multiple screens, including the big central screen which is common on many of BYD’s premium models.Ā  It also has a 31-speaker sound system, expected to deliver some of the best audio in any BYD car to date.

This new Da Han sedan, likely aimed at families and business executives who want faster charging and luxury on the go, is expected to begin deliveries in the coming weeks.

If its sibling SUV, the Da Tang, is anything to go by in terms of orders and demand, having scored over 30,000 orders in 24 hours earlier this year, it could do quite well in China before potential international sales in the coming years.
