Xpeng, a tech-driven EV maker from China, has announced that it has now officially produced one million EVs, 11 years after the company began in China.
On Xpeng’s X page, a post showcasing the one millionth EV it produced was shared, with an X9 people mover being delivered to a customer.
In the shared post, the company said: “1,000,000 is more than a number – it’s a community of pioneers. To mark this milestone, we invited the owner of our 1,000,000th vehicle for an unforgettable moment. Thank you to all those who have joined us on our journey. And this is just the start.”
This millionth car was delivered to the customer at the end of the production line by the company’s CEO and founder, He Xiaopeng, and by Dr Brian Gu, Xpeng’s vice chairman & president.
Mona M03, an electric sedan by Xpeng was launched in August 2024 and has contributed heavily to the 1 million produced EV mark, thanks to its affordable price point in China.
Over 200,000 Mona vehicles have been produced so far, contributing 20 per cent to the totally sales tally.
An SUV version of the car is expected to reach the market next year, expanding the company’s lineup of affordable, tech-driven EVs.
Last year, the company launched the brand in Australia with a ceremony being held at its flagship Sydney Airport store in Mascot.
At that store, the company has showcased multiple products from the brand, including the locally available G6 electric SUV along with the Xpeng X9, G9, P7 and the flying car.
At various EV shows across the country, the brand has also showcased the Mona M03, although no confirmation has been given on its arrival to Australia.
The G6 has been a relatively popular model by the brand in multiple international markets, including ours in Australia.
Although no official numbers have been released, data compiled by carloop, shows that the company has seen close to 2,000 G6 SUV sales under its distributor, True EV.
With a price starting at under $55,000 before on-roads, the G6 is packed with tech and offers quite a bit of space in the cabin.
Xpeng, in recent years, has shown big ambitious plans to launch in dozens of markets with an extensive model line up.
It also plans to hone in on autonomous vehicle tech as well, with the company announcing three fully autonomous Level 4 Robotaxi models at its 2025 AI Day event, held at the company’s head office in Guangzhou, China.
These are part of Xpeng’s global autonomy plan as it unveiled three new Robotaxi models, which are expected to launch in 2026.
With the brand continuing to increase its line-up of vehicles, it’s pretty clear that the next million EVs will not take 11 years, and could possibly even happen over the next 2 years, marking a big step change from being once a Chinese EV startup.
