US electric vehicle start-up Fisker has hinted that it would take its Ocean electric SUV to Australia.

Fisker has this year started deliveries of the Ocean in multiple markets, including Europe and its home market. In recent months, it has added UK to the list of countries that will be receiving the right-hand-drive version of the Ocean.

An EV enthusiast has asked the car maker if it had plans to bring this unique electric SUV to the SUV-dominated Australian market. The response from the EV startup’s CEO Henrik Fisker was very positive which Sydney EV shared in a new post on X this week.

Currently, the right-hand version is available to order in four trims in the UK with a base price of £35,970. That is more affordable than the BYD Atto 3 base-level trim  £37,195.

For this, Fisker includes:

  • 273 miles (439 km) of NEDC range
  • Front-wheel-drive single motor powertrain
  • 80 kWh battery pack
  • Glass roof
  • 17.1-inch infotainment display
  • Powered boot opener
  • Premium audio system

The top-spec Extreme variant bumps that price up to £60,880 which adds a dual-motor powertrain that can deliver up to 700 km of NEDC range. This is thanks to the 113 kWh battery pack which is one of the largest of any SUV.

Fisker began production of the Ocean just under a year ago in November last year. The first Fisker Ocean SUV went into production at the contracted manufacturer, Magna Steyr’s carbon-neutral production facility in Graz, Austria.Ā

At that time, Fisker highlighted that the demand for the Ocean EV was very strong: ā€œMore than 63,000 customers worldwide share our enthusiasm. It’s a day for our team and fans to celebrate.ā€

So far in 2023, the latest report from InsideEVs indicates that larger quantities of the Ocean SUV are starting to reach the US since the first batch was delivered back in June.Ā  The brand has been able to produce over 3,000 of these vehicles at its manufacturing plant in Austria.

Now with right-hand-drive production in the mix, production is expected to rise up to 300 units a day in the final quarter of 2023.Ā

This will likely help markets like the UK but with tens of thousands of reservations yet to be fulfilled, it’s unlikely that Fisker will be able to launch in the Australian market until next year.
