The now Chinese owned car brand MG is offering significant discounts on the price of its popular MG4 electric hatchback in its home market, Ā where the model now now starts at RMB 115,800, the equivalent of $A23,580.

That’s a discount of around $A4,885 off the recommended price if buyers purchase between July 1 and July 31, according to reports from cnevpost.

On top of these incentives, MG is also offering a 0% interest loan, a home charger and a lifetime warranty on key vehicle components as part of the deal.

The MG4 is known as the MG Mulan in the Chinese market and has been on sale for just under a year after launching back in September 2022.Ā

Since then, it has been exported to multiple markets including right-hand-drive markets like the UK. The popularity of the MG4 there has been very high and last month, MG announced the official pricing of all four variants of the MG4 in Australia.

MG surprised many early last week by revealing the entry-level MG4 Excite 51 kWh variant would be priced at $38,990 plus on-road costs, becoming the first new EV offered below $40,000. It was later trumped by the new BYD Dolphin, which is being offered at $38,890.

The Australian pricing puts the entry-level hatchback around $10,000 more than the starting price in China. This mark-up can be partially explained by shipping and dealership costs needed to deliver the car to local customers here in Australia, but it may offer hope that further price cuts are on the way.

This variant with the 51 kWh can offer up to 350 km of WLTP range and has peak fast-charging speeds of up to 117 kW. To the specs on the inside, there is a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto available.

The local MG4 has various safety features including the MG Pilot safety suite. It will be offered in seven colours.

Other more premium variants and their local powertrain specs include models with larger batteries:

  • Excite 64 kWh – $44,990
    • Range: 450 km
    • 150 kW Motor
    • 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds
  • Essence 64 kWh – $47,990
    • Range: 435 km
    • 150 kW Motor
    • 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds
  • Essence 77 kWh – $55,990
    • Range: 530 km
    • 180 kW Motor
    • 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds

Interested buyers can secure their place by registering online. The first deliveries of the MG4 are expected to be on this side of Christmas.
