New data now reveals that one in every 10 Tesla Model Ys delivered last month is now up for sale, with asking prices as much as $22,000 higher than new.

The rise in “used” listings comes just one month after Tesla started delivering the very popular Model Y deliveries for Australia in August.

Today I look at what this new data tells us and what do the coming months look like for used EVs in Australia.

Nearly 10% of all Tesla Model Y delivered in August are already up for sale

New data on used listings from carloop shows that 9.5% of all Model Ys delivered to August are already up for sale on the used EV market.

Most have well under 500km on the clock, although there are a few with up to 2,500km already driven.

Over 105 near-new Tesla Model Ys are available for those looking at getting behind the wheel of Tesla’s most family-friendly model in Australia. That’s after Tesla delivered 1,017 new Model Ys to Australia in August.

It also means that buyers of these can skip the queue by paying more than what Tesla is asking for in their online design studio.

However, they could be paying a premium for the privilege.

One listing on carsales is asking for $97,400 for a dark silver RWD Model Y – which would cost $75,525 driveaway if new in the state in which it is being sold. The lowest price listed is $75,888, with 110km on the clock.

The spike in listings comes just six weeks after the first Model Ys were delivered to Australia and is expected to rise. Many more shipments are expected to arrive over the coming months.

One other interesting point to note here is that all the Model Ys up for sale are the RWD model as Tesla is yet to deliver any Performance variants into Australia. The same high-powered variant had its wait times increase earlier this week to 7-9 months for new orders.

Another high for used Tesla Model 3 availability, up 442%

Along with Model Y used listings spike, Tesla Model 3 is now also up 442% since local orders of the SUV opened back in early June of this year. That’s 14 weeks after Australians could order one for themselves.

This is also an all-time high for Tesla Model 3 with new September data showing aggregated 537 EV sedans that are now up for sale. Used listings are expected to keep rising as the supply of Model 3s. 2,380 of the Model 3s were delivered to our shores in August and added to Tesla’s national fleet.
