GWM has launched a new campaign to boost sales of the Ora 5 electric SUV it brought to Australia in June, adding a 7 kW home charger with the advertised drive-away price that starts at $33,990 drive-away.

The company says that the complimentary charger is worth $599 and is available on both variants of the Ora 5 for cars delivered by 31 October, 2026.

The Ora 5 is a bigger vehicle than the original Ora EV, which it will replace in GWM’s local electric lineup, and already achieved strong sales in September, with 609 units, putting it number 11 among EVs for the month.

The original Ora was an affordable electric hatchback model that saw hundreds of new owners to the brand over the years. It will also make a comeback in the months to come with a refresh but the focus will be on the Ora 5 sales in the very popular family SUV segment.

This larger SUV is powered by a 150 kW front-mounted motor which feeds a 58.3 kWh LFP battery, and comes in Lux and Ultra variants.

This battery will deliver up to 430 km of WLTP range, making it quite competitive with other small SUV offerings and even doing better than the popular BYD Atto 2, which has 345 km of WLTP range.

DC fast charging is rated at up to 120 kW on this model, which can charge the battery from 30-80% in around 20 minutes.

The Ora 5 also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing it to supply up to 6 kW of external power.

Some key features of the model in the entry Lux variant include:

  • 6-Way Electric Driver Seat
  • 14.6″ Infotainment Screen
  • Apple Carplay & Android Auto
  • 6-Speaker DTS Sound System

The top-spec Ultra variant adds 18-inch alloy wheels, electric tailgate, 6-way electric driver seat with memory and heated & ventilated front seats.

The GWM Ora 5 comes with a 7-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an 8-year/unlimited-kilometre on the high-voltage battery pack.Ā  The GWM brand now has over 125 dealers across the country, helping this car reach more buyers than the original Ora.
