Chinese car giant BYD has announced more details and pricing for the upgraded version of the Atto 3, its first electric car in Australia, which is to be called the Atto 3 Evo.
The new model of the popular EV brings faster charging, a more powerful motor and a new rear-wheel-drive variant with a fun factor, with prices starting at $41,990, before on road costs, for the Dynamic front-wheel-drive entry-grade variant.
The base variant offers up to 420 km of range with its 60.48 kWh BYD Blade Battery, and keeps the 400 V architecture but also gets a slight bump in DC charging speeds to 110 kW, with a fast charge time of 10-80% in 41 minutes.
The newer Premium RWD, which is priced from $46,990 before on-road costs, will feature an 800 V architecture and 510 km of WLTP range, thanks to a larger 74.88kWh battery pack.
This battery feeds a rear-mounted 230 kW motor that comes with 380 Nm of torque. This is up from the Dynamic variant, which gets 150 kW of power for the front wheels.
This means that the 0-100 km/h sprint time comes down to 5.5 seconds, from 7.3 seconds in the original model. This variant also supports DC charging up to 220 kW, cutting the Premium’s 10-80% charge time to 25 minutes. On top of that, AC charging speeds have also been bumped to 11 kW on this model, up from 7 kW offered on the Dynamic and previous-gen Atto 3.
Both models receive vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability with up to 3.3 kW of output available when on the go.
Other improvements found inside are increased boot space, which has gone from 434 to 490 litres with the rear seats up. Once folded, this increases to 1,360 litres, which is also an increase over the previous generation car.
There is also an update inside to the screen behind the steering wheel which increases from 5 to 8.8 inches for better readability and display of key driver info, and it adds functionality too.
There is also an update to the wireless phone charging spot, which now offers 50 W wireless charging instead of 15 W on previous models.
The interior also includes redesigned door panels, multi-colour ambient lighting, split headrests on seats for adjustability and feels more in line with BYD’s current interiors. There is also a sunglass holder, which has been requested by local owners.
On the outside, the new Atto 3 looks much like the original model but now features a new pair of tail lights as part of the rear spoiler and new wheels.
The new Atto 3 comes with 6 years/150,000kms for the vehicle, an 8 years/160,000kms for the high-voltage traction battery and 8 years/150,000kms for the drive unit.
Servicing costs will depend on the variant over 5 years but the first service for all variants will be $190 at the 1-year or 20,000 km mark.
