Chinese electric automaker BYD has this week unveiled its flagship electric truck, the BYD ETT 44, which it describes as a heavy-duty electric truck with a range of up to 600 kilometres and 1.5-megawatt (MW) charging.
Unveiled at IAA Transportation 2026 in Germany this week, the BYD ETT 44 is a 4×2 battery electric tractor with a gross vehicle weight of 20 tonnes and gross combination weight of 44 tonnes.
The ETT 44 has been built from the ground up on a native electric platform and combines high performance with advanced battery technology and ultra-fast charging.
Battery capacity is 651 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and uses the company’s Ultra-safe Blade Battery, and yields a driving range of up to 600 kilometres. The electric motor puts out up to 1,000 metric horsepower (PS) at peak drive power, or a rated drive power of 743 PS.
An integrated 1.5 MW charging system (MCS) enables the truck to charge from 20 to 80 per cent in approximately 20 minutes, while its CCS2 DC charging power is rated to 420 kW, which allows for the same state of charge to be achieved in around 60 minutes.
“We have already put Flash Charging into practice in passenger vehicles,” said Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD. “Today, we are bringing this technology to commercial vehicles, starting with our trucks. Less time charging. More time on the road,” she added.
The ETT 44 also comes with a full suite of safety and driver assist functionality.
But BYD isn’t stopping there, arriving at IAA with a range of electric trucks, including new rigid 4×2 and 6×2 models in a 26-tonne swap body and hooklift version, as well as new commercial vans and an electric yard tractor.
All combined, BYD hopes that the lineup will demonstrate its ability to provide a complete range of electric commercial vehicles.
