The sale of electric vehicles (EVs) continues to accelerate across Europe, with record monthly sales numbers set in August in the ever-dominant Norway as well as emerging superstar Denmark, and a number of countries edging closer to 50 per cent EV sales.
Norway set a new EV share record in August, with full battery electric cars accounting for 98.7 per cent of all new passenger cars registered in the month.
The best-selling car in Norway in August was the Volkswagen ID.4, followed by the Toyota bZ4X, neither of which rate in the top 10 best selling EVs in Australia. Tesla, which dominates the market in Australia along with BYD, slipped down the rankings with the Model 3 coming in at seventh place.Â
Across the Skagerrak strait, Denmark also set another record, a month after privately bought EVs set a record share of the market of 97 per cent. This time, EVs set a new record in August of 85.9 per cent across all sales, both private and other, the highest share of electric cars ever in total Danish new car sales.
Electric vehicles also set a new record in Belgium, finishing the month of August as the most registered type of car for the third consecutive month and taking home a record share of 46.2 per cent.
The sale of electrified vehicles set new records in Spain, taking home a 27.7 per cent share, up nearly 30 per cent over August 2025. Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) also grew by over 30 per cent.
While the records stop there, the sale of EVs across the rest of Europe nevertheless showed continued growth. Sweden, Finland, and the Netherlands all saw sales of EVs hover around the 50 per cent mark, while in Switzerland, France, and Ireland, EV sales all increased.
