BYD’s Denza brand to launch new luxury EV to go against Range Rover

BYD’s luxury brand Denza is expected to launch a new fully electric model to compete with Range Rover and other luxury SUV models with its N8 SUV, capable of flash charging thanks to its 100+ kWh new LFP Blade Batteries.

This model has been spotted in regulatory filings that reveal the N8 EV will have big batteries, long range, and a hefty price tag that will still come in at around half the price of the competing Range Rovers.

Another Denza model, the D9 has already been spotted on the back of a truck in Melbourne, undergoing local evaluation, so it might not be too far-fetched to think that the new model could be heading our way in the coming years.

The likely price of the N8 is unclear, but given Denza’s current models like the D9 people mover, being offered under $100,000 in Australia, this new model could come in around $150,000, which is far cheaper than the ICE Range Rover Sport SV, which starts at $320,000 before any options.

According to the new filing, shared by CNC, The N8 will measure 5,150 mm in length and stand 1,820 mm tall, putting it up there with the likes of Range Rover, which comes in at just over 5,050 mm for the SV edition.

Powering the new SUV are three powertrains, with two featuring a rear motor setup. The entry-level model will produce 320 kW, while the more powerful Rear Wheel Drive setup will make 370 kW.

The top-spec version comes with a tri-motor setup, featuring two motors in the back along with a front motor, providing a combined output of 890 kW. 

This powertrain is fed by two battery packs, with the first coming in at 105.8 kWh, packing 840 km of CLTC range. That’s likely to be around 600 km on the WLTP cycle used commonly in our market.

There is also a bigger 130.2 kWh battery pack that delivers up to 1,003 km of CLTC range, which is expected to be above 700 km on the WLTP cycle.

The new N8 is expected to come equipped with 1,500 kW Flash Charging tech, thanks to the new Blade Battery with Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

That would allow charging from 10-70% in just 5 minutes or 10-97% in just 9 minutes, using the company’s latest Flash Charging technology, unveiled in March 2026.

From the filings, it can be seen that it will also be equipped with LiDAR for assisted driving system functionality.
