Chinese car giant BYD officially launched its largest electric vehicle in April, badged as the Da Tang SUV model, securing more than 30,000 pre-orders in the first 24 hours for a vehicle that starts at the equivalent of just over $A51,000.
Now, the company has teased its flagship sedan, which it calls the Da Han, and will be regarded as the company’s potential flagship model in its Dynasty sedan series, featuring its latest Flash Charging tech.
On the company’s Weibo page, it revealed sketches of the sedan, which takes inspiration from the existing Han model and modernises it with a greater focus on aerodynamics, which incorporate a spoiler on the lower sections of the front bonnet.
There also appears to be a LiDAR unit at the front, which is common in many BYD models in China for autonomous driving functionality.
This will help with the range on the car, which is expected to be over 1,000 km in one of the variants that features the company’s new Blade Battery.Â
This battery will also support Flash Charging tech that can charge this SUV from 10-70% in just 5 minutes. 10-97% can also be done in just 9 minutes, which is quicker than stopping at a servo to fill up a large car.
This pack with 102 kWh of Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) cells will help the massive electric sedan deliver up to 1,008 km of CLTC range in the RWD configuration.
This should easily be over 750 km on the WLTP cycle, making it one of the best long-range luxury sedans on the market.
Specs on Da Han have previously been spotted, revealing that a single-motor version will come with a 370 kW rear-wheel drive configuration, while the dual-motor version will have a combined power output of 570 kW.
That sort of power will be needed to move the whopping 5.26-metre-long car with a gross weight of over 2,500 kg.
Over the last few years, BYD has been expanding its EV lineup to cover everything from a micro Kei car in Japan to large ultra-luxury 7-seater SUVs.
This new Da Han sedan, likely aimed at families and business executive travel who want faster charging on the go, is expected to be fully unveiled next month at the Chengdu Auto Show and was confirmed by BYD on its Weibo page.
